UEW ICT Students Pay Study Visit to NCA

July 24, 2026:  Students from the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have paid a study visit to the National Communications Authority (NCA) to gain practical insights into the Authority’s regulatory activities and Ghana’s communications sector. 

The visit brought together students from Levels 100 to 400 and provided an opportunity for them to complement their academic studies with practical knowledge of the NCA’s mandate and operations.

As part of the engagement, the students were taken through the work of the Consumer Affairs Division with discussions focusing on the rights and responsibilities of consumers of electronic communications services. They also learnt about the various channels available to consumers for lodging complaints and seeking redress when they encounter challenges with their service providers. 

The discussions further highlighted the importance of consumer awareness in ensuring that users of communications services are able to make informed decisions while understanding their responsibilities within the digital ecosystem.

Cybersecurity also featured during the engagement, with discussions on emerging cyber threats, safe online practices and the importance of protecting personal information. The students were introduced to the NCA’s role in promoting cybersecurity within the communications sector and the importance of responsible behaviour in an increasingly connected digital environment. 

To provide the students with further practical exposure, they were taken on a guided tour of some of the NCA’s key regulatory facilities including the Broadcasting Monitoring Centre, the NCA Computer Emergency Response Team (NCA-CERT) and the Network Monitoring Centre. The tour offered the students an opportunity to observe how technology is deployed to support the Authority’s monitoring, cybersecurity and regulatory functions. 

The study visit formed part of the NCA’s continued engagement with educational institutions to deepen students’ understanding of communications regulation and expose them to practical applications within Ghana’s evolving digital ecosystem.
