NCA Holds Pre-Application Briefing on Spectrum Licences in The 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz Mid Bands

July 27, 2026 – The National Communications Authority (NCA), in accordance with Sections 2(1) and 58(1) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) and the National Communications Authority Act, 2008 (Act 769), has held a Pre-Application Briefing for prospective applicants as part of the Request for Applications (RFA) for Spectrum Licences in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz Mid Bands at the NCA Tower.

The meeting, led by the Director General of the NCA, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, provided participating stakeholders and prospective Applicants the opportunity to engage the Authority and seek clarification on the application process. Discussions focused on key aspects of the RFA, including the Selection and Award Procedure, eligibility requirements, spectrum availability, coverage obligations and considerations relating to Significant Market Power (SMP).

In his remarks, the Director General noted that the Authority was making the spectrum available as early as possible to facilitate the timely deployment of 5G services across the country. He emphasised that the NCA remained committed to ensuring that Ghanaians benefited from improved connectivity and enhanced digital services.

Rev. Ing. Fianko further stated that the Authority was mindful of the growing demand for high-quality communications services, including faster internet speeds and seamless connectivity without buffering. He indicated that successful applicants would be expected to meet the rollout obligations and timelines stipulated in the licence conditions to ensure the timely deployment of 5G services nationwide.

Stakeholders who participated in the briefing included Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) operators.

The briefing formed part of the Authority’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair and competitive licensing process that supported the expansion of broadband connectivity and Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
