Celebrating 30 Years of NCA Through Sports and Teamwork

August 17, 2026 – As part of activities commemorating the 30th Anniversary celebrations of the National Communications Authority (NCA), a Staff Games and Fun Day was held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon. The event brought together staff from the Head Office and Regional offices across the country for a day of sporting activities, recreation and team building — building bridges across divisions, generations and distances that do not always get the opportunity to connect.

Staff were grouped into six teams namely Blue Spectrum, Yellow Fibre, Red Signal, Violet Satellite, Green Cyber and Orange Network, with each team deliberately comprising staff from different offices and departments to reinforce a simple but important message: there is one NCA, one team and one shared purpose. The teams competed in a variety of sporting and recreational activities, including football, sack race, lime and spoon race, 100-metre race, 4×100-metre relay and several other fun activities. Newer members of staff competed alongside colleagues who have served the Authority for decades, making the day as much a celebration of the NCA’s generational continuity as it was a sporting contest.

One of the highlights of the event was the Management 30-metre race, which saw members of Management take to the track in a spirited contest — a moment that captured the spirit of the day, with leadership participating alongside staff rather than presiding from the sidelines.

Reflecting on the Authority’s 30-year journey, the Director-General, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko noted that the NCA’s achievements have not been driven by regulation and technology alone, but by the people who have worked together over the years to build and sustain the institution. “For 30 years, the NCA has remained committed to regulating Ghana’s communications industry in a manner that promotes growth, innovation and consumer confidence. However, behind every milestone, every policy, every regulatory intervention and every achievement is a team of dedicated people working towards a common purpose,” he said.

He added that staff wellness and bonding are essential to building a strong institution, noting that an organisation can only effectively deliver on its mandate when its people are motivated, connected and able to work together. “As we celebrate 30 years of the NCA’s existence, we must also celebrate the people behind the institution. Staff wellness, teamwork and opportunities to bond are not separate from our work; they are part of what strengthens us to deliver. When we connect as colleagues, we build trust. When we work together, we become stronger. And when our people thrive, the institution is better positioned to regulate an industry that continues to evolve.”

The Deputy Director-General in charge of Managerial Operations, Mrs. Etta Mosore, emphasised that the Authority’s growth has been driven by its people, collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence. She noted that staff wellness and strong interpersonal relationships remain important to sustaining a productive, cohesive and resilient institution, and that events such as the Fun Games are essential to nurturing the bonds that hold the organisation together across its offices and regions.

After an exciting and energy-filled day of competition, Blue Spectrum emerged as the Overall Best Team, securing first position. Yellow Fibre placed second, followed by Red Signal in third position. Violet Satellite finished in fourth position, while Green Cyber and Orange Network placed fifth and sixth respectively.

The Fun Games formed part of the NCA’s year-long 30th Anniversary celebrations, being held under the theme, “30 Years of Communications Regulation – Celebrating Impact, Advancing a More Inclusive Digital Future.” Beyond the competition, the day promoted staff wellness, strengthened interpersonal relationships and provided a platform for colleagues from across Ghana to interact, recharge and be reminded that behind the Authority’s regulatory work is a community of people who are stronger, more connected and more effective together.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards to deserving teams, with Blue Spectrum receiving the coveted Overall Best Team Award.

The NCA remains committed to fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture as it celebrates 30 years of impact and continues its work towards advancing a more inclusive digital future for Ghana.
