Amateur Radio

Overview
Amateur radio (also called ham radio) describes the use of radiofrequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, and emergency communication.

The term "amateur" is used to specify a duly authorised person by the NCA interested in radioelectric practice with a purely personal aim and without the intent for monetary gain.
Technical Information
Amateur Radio is a radio communication service for self-training, interconnection, and technical investigations carried out by amateurs. This will ensure that these activities are conducted by authorised persons interested in radio techniques solely to acquire knowledge for self and not for pecuniary interest. According to our Regulations, the Authority may grant an Amateur Radio Licence to an applicant who has passed the radio amateur examination or possesses the requisite qualifications prescribed for the purpose.

As of December 2016, 177 Licences have been issued for Amateur Radio services however, the majority are not currently active as most of the Licensees are foreigners who use the facilities for short periods during their stay in the country. The licence is valid for 10 years.
