Minister Swears in New NCA Board Members 

July 14, 2026 – Two new Board Members of the National Communications Authority(NCA) have been sworn in by Hon. Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to restore the Board to its full complement following the passing of two former members, Mrs. Augustina Odame and Dr. Seth Mahama Sayibu. 

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the NCA Tower in Accra, saw Alhaji Abdul Rauf Ibrahim Tanko, and Professor Agyapomaa Gyeke-Dako, take the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy before officially assuming their roles as members of the NCA Board.

Addressing the newly appointed Board Members, Hon. Samuel Nartey George congratulated them on their appointments and commended their distinguished careers, leadership credentials and wealth of experience. He indicated that it was their pursuit of excellence in their respective fields that had endeared them to leadership, hence their appointments. He also noted that their appointments reflected Government’s confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of the Authority.

The Minister explained that following the passing of two former NCA Board Members, it became necessary to fill the resulting gaps in expertise to ensure that the Board continued to function effectively. The President, thus, had approved the nominations of the two replacements in order that the NCA Board would have its full complement of members. 

Alhaji Abdul Rauf Ibrahim Tanko, one of the appointees, currently serves as the Chairman of the National Hajj Board. He is a three-time Member of Parliament who has served the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency in the North East Region of Ghana. He also is an astute businessman with a footprint in road and building construction as well as rice and livestock farming.  

Professor Agyapomaa Gyeke-Dako, the other appointee to the Board, is an academic who cut her teeth in Economics and Geography at the University of Ghana, where she graduated with First Class Honours in 2004. She pursued a Master of Science Degree in Economics and Financial Economics at the University of Nottingham, in the United Kingdom, between 2005 and 2006, and a PhD in Economics at the same university from 2006 to 2010. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Finance of the University of Ghana Business School. She has consulted for entities like the Mastercard Foundation, USAID, the African Economic Research Consortium and Ghana’s Ministry of Finance.

Adding her voice to the welcoming words of the sector Minister, the Board Chair, Ms. Mavis Ampah, described the NCA Board as one built on trust, commitment and teamwork. She said, “This place is like a family. There’s a lot of trust and hard work among us. The Minister and our Director General are very hard workers themselves. Members of this Board have given their all so far to the work at hand, and we have no doubt that you will do the same and even more.” 

For his part, the Director General of the Authority, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, also welcomed the new appointees and assured them of Management’s support. 

“We are very happy to have you. We are counting on your wisdom and experience to aid us all deliver for Mother Ghana. We are happy to assist you in every way to make your work and ours successful,” he said. 

The Hon. Samuel Nartey George further commended the Board Chair for her indefatigable approach to work and for bringing her wealth of experience to bear at the NCA and encouraged the new members to emulate her commitment to public service.

Speaking for the newly-appointed members of the Board of the NCA, Professor Gyeke-Dako expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and pledged their commitment to serving diligently in support of the Authority’s mandate. 

Present at the ceremony were the Chairperson of the NCA Board, Ms. Mavis Ampah; the Director General of the NCA, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko; the Deputy Director General for Managerial Operations, Mrs. Etta Mosore; the Secretary to the Authority, Mrs. Golda Sowah Adjei; members of the Board; and Management of the Authority. 

The National Communications Authority continues to mark its 30th year of regulatory excellence in communications this year, as it celebrates its monumental impact in Ghana’s digital life over the decades.
