Radiodetermination Services

Overview
ITU Radio Regulation No. 1.9 defines Radiodetermination as using the propagation properties of radio waves for the determination of the position, velocity and/or other characteristics of an object, or obtaining of information relating to these parameters.;

Categorisation of Radiodetermination Services

No person or business entity is permitted to develop, install, operate and maintain a Radiodetermination service or systems without the requisite Authorisation from the Authority.

  • Radiodetermination services include; radionavigation, radiolocation, radar and radio direction-finding, etc:
    1. Radionavigation: Radiodetermination used for the purposes of navigation, including obstruction warning.
    2. Radiolocation: Radiodetermination used for purposes other than those of radionavigation.
    3. Radio direction-finding: Radiodetermination using the reception of radio waves for the purpose of determining the direction of a station or object.
    4. Radar: A radiodetermination system based on the comparison of reference signals with radio signals reflected, or retransmitted, from the position to be determined.
  • Frequency Authorisation
  • All frequency bands allocated to radionavigation and radiolocation services per Ghana's National Frequency Allocation Table are available for use subject to the grant of a radiodetermination services Authorisation.

  • Application Requirements
  • The scope, application requirements and fees for the various radiodetermination services are provided for in the licensing framework for the operation of radiodetermination services in Ghana.
