NCA, NCCE Start SIM Registration Collaboration with Training Exercise

Accra, November 9, 2021: The National Communications Authority (NCA) has held a one-day training workshop on the ongoing National SIM Registration Exercise for some Accra-based staff of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). The in-person training was organized to fully prepare the NCCE as they prepare to educate the citizenry about the SIM Registration Exercise. Other staff of the NCCE across the country will receive similar training in the coming days.

Addressing the over sixty participants before the training, the Deputy Director General of the NCA in charge of Managerial Operations, Ms. Olivia Okailey Quartey, stated that the SIM registration exercise is aimed at developing and establishing an integrity-based SIM registry that will aid in the prevention of fraudulent activities. Additionally, she stated that this is a national effort that will require collaboration to succeed. “To do this, it will be essential to spread the word throughout Ghana’s sixteen (16) regions, which will ensure that all subscribers participate in the exercise”, she explained.

Nana Defie Badu, Director for Consumer and Corporate Affairs of the NCA, also addressed the participants, noting that, given the subscribers’ diverse local languages, it is critical that they are guided through the various stages of the SIM Registration Exercise and that any challenges arising from consumer education are addressed. She further urged participants to put what they had learned to good use and to contribute to the creation of necessary awareness to scale up the numbers of registrations.
