WATRA Working Groups Meeting Ends in Accra with Renewed Commitment to Collaboration
July 24, 2025 – The four-day Working Groups Meeting of the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) hosted by National Communications Authority (NCA) has ended today, 24th July, 2025 in Accra with a strong reaffirmation of the Assembly’s commitment to deepening regulatory cooperation and advancing digital transformation across the sub-region.
Bringing the meeting to a close, the Director General of NCA, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, in his remarks expressed appreciation to all participants for their active contributions over the four days, noting that the outcomes of the meeting will go a long way in strengthening regulatory alignment and promoting consumer-focused innovation. He reaffirmed Ghana’s continued support for WATRA and its role in fostering shared progress in the digital space.

The Executive Secretary of WATRA, Mr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki, also delivering his closing remarks, commended the NCA for its exemplary leadership and warm hospitality. He emphasised the importance of validating and adopting the refined outputs of the meeting at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. He further noted that the work of the Working Groups remains ongoing and will continue virtually, with the final outcomes expected to form West Africa’s common position at the African Telecommunications Union and further at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). He encouraged all member states to actively participate in these virtual sessions to ensure inclusive input and strong regional representation.

The meeting, which brought together representatives from WATRA member states, ITU Development Bureau and technical experts such as Liviasoft Technologies, Amazon Kuiper, and GE Vernova, focused on key thematic areas including consumer experience, infrastructure development and cybersecurity.
