MNOs Authorised to Send Health Education on Covid-19
Ghana’s four (4) Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) – AirtelTigo, Glo, MTN and Vodafone have been granted a waiver by the National Communications Authority (NCA) to send Emergency Communications from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on the COVID-19 Global Pandemic to subscribers. This forms part of efforts to educate consumers and the public on COVID-19, also called Coronavirus.
All MNOs have, therefore, been directed to ensure that they only send Emergency Communications provided by the GHS to their subscribers. This will be in the form of text messages from the sender ID, COVID-19 GH.
The NCA is also working with the MNOs and the National Emergency Communications Centre to route all calls placed to the COVID-19 emergency numbers at no cost to the public through the existing emergency number, 112.
The public is advised to refer all emergencies including those related to COVID–19 to national emergency number, 112. Calls to this number are free and can be made even when a caller has no credit or airtime.
