9th Meeting of African Regulators Ends in Accra
The 9th meeting of the Council of African Regulators (CAR), organised by the Smart Africa Secretariat and hosted by the National Communications Authority, ended in Accra on Friday, 13th December, 2019.
The meeting which was attended by 16 out of the 24 member countries from across the African continent also saw in attendance at the opening, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Communications, Hon. George Nenyi Andah and the Board Chairman of the NCA, Mr. Kwaku Sakyi-Addo.
Deliberations for the 9th meeting focused on how regulators can provide strong leadership and guidance to important issues such as broadband strategy, the skills development for countries and the free roaming and One Africa Network project. The event also granted delegates the opportunity to tour some of NCA’s facilities including the Computer Emergency response Team (CERT) and the Communications Monitoring Center at the NCA Tower in Accra.
In his closing remarks, Deputy Director General in charge of Technical Operations at the NCA, Mr. Henry Kanor thanked the delegates for a successful and informative meeting and charged SMART Africa to put in extra efforts in bringing on board other countries or states in this drive to move Africa forward.
Other institutions that participated in the meeting were GSMA, Score Technology, Elso and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
